Bringing Back An Annual Event The Jeff “Mookie” Wilson Memorial Basketball Game Every year for over a decade or so, Jordan-Elbridge basketball alumni would just know that after February break, they would get the opportunity to step back onto their old high school gym and play some hoops in memory of JE Basketball player Jeff “Mookie” Wilson. However, for the last two years the event didn’t come together and it was definitely missed. Knowing how much the community looked forward to the event and how important the cause, the JE Community Sports Boosters teamed up with Jeff’s mom, Vivian Wilson, and her sons Jason and Josh and brought the event together for 2010. The format was odd years vs. even years. Although the odd years trailed for the first three quarters, they ended up on top having their victory secured by Rob “Spoon” Weatherstone’s 3-point shot. Other activities included a youth foul shooting contest. In the 3rd and 4th grade division, Brandon Wick took first place, Collin Barrigar (2nd place) and Tyler Fietta (3rd place). In the 5th and 6th grade division, Alexis Fietta won first place, Nick Hallinan (2nd place) and Cole Melfi (3rd place). In the boys 7th and 8th grade division, Ryan Cooper earned first place, Jake Melfi (2nd place) and Justin Quinn (3rd place). Morgan Conroy won the 7th & 8th grade girls division. The juniors vs. seniors game was won by the juniors and winning the half-court shot contest were Cody Lewis (JE Sophomore), Rob “Spoon” Weatherstone (1981) and Chris Lawless (2002). Voted as the MVP was Ron Merrill (1976).
