JE varsity football coach celebrates 100th career win

Jordan-Elbridge varsity football coach Joe Fiacchi celebrated his 100th career win on Oct. 5 with a 62-48 victory over Hannibal. During the game, Jeremiah Sparks ran for 271 yards and scored five rushing touchdowns. The win raised the team’s record to 4-2.

Fiacchi is in his first year at JE, but spent many years coaching Marcellus and other schools in the region. He left Marcellus with 96 wins.

He credits both his success and longevity to the bonds he’s made with his staff and students along the way.

“It feels fantastic and it makes me realize that I’ve been coaching a long time. When I started out, I didn’t think about those things,” he said.

“When I look back, the bonds I’ve built really stick out to me. I have made a lot of good friends over the years.”

Dan Stadtmiller, the director of health, physical education and athletics at JE, said the district is glad to have an experienced coach like Fiacchi join its program.

“Students have responded great to him, and he has served as a wonderful addition to our school community. I am glad JE is a part of his 100th victory,” he said.

A native of North Syracuse, Fiacchi said he got into education to coach and help kids (he recently retired after teaching high school history for 30 years) and he’s happy he’s been able to help them recognize their abilities on and off the field.

Fiacchi’s future goals include making the playoffs – which the team has already done – and winning a sectional title.

“With this year’s team, we had a nice core coming back, and we’ve achieved part of what we wanted,” he said.

“Our future goals are trying to win a sectional title and always giving the kids opportunities to be successful.”
