JEHS student advances to regional round in Shakespeare Competition
Junior Emilie Pearl will represent Jordan-Elbridge High School in the 36th Annual ESU National Shakespeare Competition at the Syracuse Stage on March 2. She will compete against approximately 24 regional contestants from all over Central New York. Elora Kunz was the runner-up in the competition. In late January, all local contestants performed a monologue of about 20 lines (or one minute) from a Shakespearean play. All were judged by a faculty panel.
English language arts (ELA) teacher Kathryn Fleury Eldridge coached all the participants.
“Both will need to prepare an additional sonnet for the next leg of the competition,” Eldridge said.
The winner of the regional competition wins a trip to the final competition in New York City. The national winner will then earn a scholarship to attend the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art Young Actors' Summer School in London.
