JE Drama Club presents the play “Don’t Print That” on May 17-18
The Jordan-Elbridge Drama Club presents the melodrama “Don’t Print That” at 7:30 p.m., May 17-18, in the Ramsdell Auditorium at Jordan-Elbridge Middle School.
The play centers on newspaper publisher Lew Grantstedder who tries to keep his town honest and respectable while the mayor tries to ruin the newspaper. On Lew's side are his beautiful daughter, Loria, and his printer, who is in love with Loria. Helping the mayor in his attempt to ruin the newspaper are Hannah and her uninhibited demonstrators.
The play stars Matt Frost, Emma Youngman, Amber Cassick, Mackenzie Jackson, Nick Webster, Nathaniel English, Tyler Piper, Emilie Pearl, Ariel Mead and Esther Richardson.
Director Denise Deapo calls the show very interactive and funny, and said this the first time the drama club has presented a melodrama.
“Melodrama is an over-exaggerated style with lots of audience interaction. The audience gets to boo the villain and cheer the hero,” she said.
“It’s a more personal and quaint style of theater, and very family friendly.”
Matt Frost – whose acting in his sixth production – echoed Deapo’s sentiments.
“It’s a really funny play and very interactive with the audience," he said. "It should be a lot of fun.”
Tickets are $7 and are available at the door. Intermission includes Snickerdoodle cookies and sarsaparilla.
