Former Elbridge Elementary teacher transitions to role of JEDIS principal intern

Former Elbridge Elementary teacher Brooke Bastian has served in various leadership roles at JE, and looked forward to a role working with adults that would ultimately impact a great number of students. That’s why this year she began serving in a one-year post as the principal intern at the Jordan-Elbridge Dynamic Intermediate School (JEDIS).

Bastian works with teachers on best instructional practices, builds positive relationships with students using the school’s SOAR program, and leads a multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) committee that works with students in small groups and individually. She also partners with families to support student growth both in and outside of school.

“The position of principal intern is a great responsibility and challenge, and I like to play a part in helping students learn and grow,” she said.

We caught up with Bastian and asked a few more questions.

Q. Has anything surprised you about being in the current position?
A. Everything surprises me about being a principal intern. I was worried that I wouldn’t feel connected to our students. However, I feel very connected to our staff and students. I am in classrooms on a daily basis observing, teaching and collaborating.

Q. What makes JE special?
A. The Jordan-Elbridge Central School District is a special place for many reasons. I have met amazing colleagues who have challenged me to learn and grow, and I have taught amazing students whose journeys I will continue to celebrate and follow. I have also had an outstanding experience as a JE parent. My own son is a student in kindergarten in Mrs. Gryzlo’s class. Above all, JE is truly a place where all people can realize its mission, “cultivating the best in personal growth and achievement.”

Q. What do you want parents to know about you?
A. I want families to know that I understand the struggle as a parent. I am here to support the efforts being made at home and at school. I am the mother of three boys, so I recognize the hard work of parents and the many demands we encounter.
