The Jordan-Elbridge Central School District offers a wide variety of extracurricular athletic programs which are not designated intramural, interschool, extramural or organized practice as defined by Education Law Sections 3208-a. It is the intention of the District to ensure to the greatest extent possible the safe participation of all students involved in extracurricular sports and activities. As a result, the District may require any student seeking to participate in an extracurricular athletic program to be examined by the School District physician to ascertain whether it is safe for that student to participate.
In the event that the School district physician, in his or her professional judgment, determines that the student lacks physical capacity to participate in the extracurricular athletic program by reason of physical impairment, the student may seek participation pursuant to the procedures outlined in Education Law Section 3208-a. For purposes of this policy, any student deemed to lack physical capacity to participate in an extracurricular program as a result of the School District physician’s recommendation, will be permitted to participate upon obtaining a court order pursuant to Education Law Section 3208-a.
