Jessica Killian - Middle School Spanish teacher
“I became a teacher because I truly love sharing my love of the Spanish language and Hispanic culture. I think it’s incredibly fun and rewarding to speak in a different language and open your mind to a different world than the one you live in.”
So says new Jordan-Elbridge Middle School Spanish teacher Jessica Killian, who is entering her eighth year of teaching. The Clinton, N.Y. native earned her bachelor’s degree in Spanish from SUNY Geneseo and a master’s in curriculum development and instructional technology from SUNY Albany.
Killian hopes her experiences traveling to Mexico, Panama and Costa Rica will be fun to share with students. She wants students to feel like they have experienced something ...

Security and capital improvement project vote on Tuesday, Oct. 2; click to see presentation:
Project includes reconfigured entrances and new PA systems at each school, relocation of nurse’s office at Elbridge Elementary to the main floor, lighting upgrades; NO additional taxes
On Tuesday, Oct. 2, Jordan-Elbridge Central School District residents will head to the polls to vote on a $3.8 million capital improvement project that includes creating a single point of entry at the main entrances of each school building to improve security.

To pay for the $3.8 million project, the district would use $1 million from its capital reserve fund and use state building aid to cover the remaining $2.8 million. The project would require no additional school taxes for residents.

JEHS ranked in top 10 percent of high schools across the U.S.:
Jordan-Elbridge High School ranked in the top 10 percent of high schools across the country according to a report from U.S. News & World Report .
The report is based upon college readiness, how students perform on state-mandated tests and AP class enrollment. About 55 percent of the students at the school are enrolled in AP classes. The report also took into account graduation rates and mathematics and reading proficiency.
JEHS earned a silver medal and was ranked 180 in the state (it ranked 2,045 in the country).

Jordan-Elbridge High School welcomes new principal:
Former athletic director and assistant principal Mark Schermerhorn has been named the new principal at Jordan-Elbridge High School. He takes over for the retiring David Zehner.
Schermerhorn has been at JE since 2008 when he started as a technology teacher. He earned his bachelor’s degree in political science from SUNY Oswego and a master’s degree in technology education from Ball State. He also studied educational administration at the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.
After spending 10 years in the district, Schermerhorn felt it was time to take on a larger leadership role.

A SchoolTool mobile app is now available for the middle and high school. Parents and students can now log in to see information about current schedules, assignments and attendance. Also, users will be able to receive push notifications when teachers submit assignment grades.

JE Musical Players stage crew wins Syracuse High School Theatre Award:
The JE Musical Players stage crew won the outstanding stage crew award for “Young Frankenstein” during the 2018 Syracuse High School Theatre Awards on June 3. It marks the second time in four years the crew has won the award. In total, JE was nominated in 10 categories including outstanding overall production of a musical.
The 20-member stage crew includes students in grades 6-12. Technical director Drew Deapo said his goal is to have the upperclassmen serve as mentors to the younger crew members.
He attributed the win to the students working well together as a team. He said they understand the importance of executing scene changes efficiently and effectively as one unit.

Eighth graders "move up" during ceremony:
A total of 102 eighth grade students at Jordan-Elbridge Middle School said farewell to their school and hello to high school during a moving up ceremony on June 19.
Parents, teachers and administrators filled the auditorium as the students eagerly looked on. The ceremony featured various speakers who all praised the students for their efforts and encouraged them to explore the many opportunities at the high school before they graduate in 2022.
Superintendent James Froio referred to the high school program of studies and talked about options in social studies, photography, technology and more. He also talked about the college credits available to students, and said this year’s valedictorian, Hugh Schader (who is headed to Harvard University), will graduate with 48.

Voters approve 2018-19 JE school budget; elect 2 board members:
On May 15, Jordan-Elbridge Central School District voters approved the district's $31,027,272 budget for 2018-19 with 288 yes votes to 71 no votes, and elected two Board of Education members.
Voters supported an increase of $2,500 for the Elbridge Free Library (278 yes, 80 no) and an increase of $2,500 for the Jordan Bramley Library (280 yes, 79 no).
Voters also elected two candidates for two open Board of Education seats. William Yard received 286 votes and will serve a three-year term that runs through June 30, 2021, and Susan Fordyce received 284 votes and will complete a term of office that runs through June 30, 2020.
