JEHS students learning both digital and traditional art in new studio art format
For the first time, studio art students at Jordan-Elbridge High School are learning about both digital and traditional art in the same class. Each marking period, the students switch from traditional art to digital art. That means that during the full-year course,
Theresa Bondgren teaches the traditional mediums, while Katie DeLorenzo teaches on the digital side. About 57 students are enrolled in studio art this year.
“This is the first year we’ve got it to where they’re switching every marking period,” DeLorenzo said.
“This prepares them for the advanced courses by introducing them to a specific art form. Each area helps pique their interests and then lets them move onto something new.”
DeLorenzo said the students seem to realty like the change and they like dabbing in different areas.
"They can try out everything they would study in the advanced art courses. Some might not realize what they could do," she added.
Freshman Gabby Gunnip called studio art one of her favorite classes and said she enjoys being able to learn the basics of photography.
“Photography makes me feel good, and I’ve been learning a lot,” she said during a recent lesson.
Kevin Paxtor felt the same.
“I love taking pictures. This class is a lot of fun,” he said.
