Four seniors from Jordan-Elbridge High School will lead this year’s Science Olympiad team during a regional tournament on Jan. 26 at LeMoyne College. Additional team members include Meghan Whalen, Mia Delap, Sean Dristle, Margo Miller, Ashlee Cunningham, Jillian Ferris, Allen Cassick, Hannah Fichter, Francesca Brown, Eugene Cochran and Clara Jean Derby.

Science Olympiad is a team competition where students compete in 23 events pertaining to various scientific disciplines, including earth science, biology, and engineering. Over 7,800 middle school and high school teams from 50 U.S. states compete each year. Last year, the team finished in 11th place out of 40 teams at the regional tournament, which marked an improvement of more than 10 places from the previous year. Also, for the first time, the team finished first in two events.
