Parent-Teacher (P/T) Conferences

Parent-Teacher (P/T) Conferences

We host parent-teacher conferences in grades 3YP through 3rd grade. Conferences between the teacher and parents/guardians clarify the child’s progress in school. Strengths are celebrated and weaknesses are highlighted. Additional information about how parents and guardians can contribute to their child’s learning is shared at a P/T conference. Children do not usually attend a parent-teacher conference.

The P/T conference is held in the fall and is usually just after Halloween. Every child’s parent/guardian attends this fall conference. It develops a strong home-school connection for the rest of the school year between the teacher and the parent.

Additional P/T conferences may need to be held to communicate a child's school progress with his or her parent/guardian.  These conferences are scheduled with parents by the teacher if he/she feels the need to review concerns relative to the student. Do not be alarmed if you are invited to a second conference. The teacher merely wishes to maintain an open dialog about the child’s progress in school and how parents can help at home to cultivate the best in student growth and achievement.

If you have questions relative to parent-teacher conferences, please see the FAQs below.  You may also call us at (315) 689-8540 x 4002.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How do I know when parent-teacher conferences are held?

Answer: The date of parent-teacher conferences are printed yearly in the district’s monthly calendar as well as on our website www.jecsd.org. You can call or email your child’s teacher for specific information about the exact time, date, and location of your conference.

If my child is doing well in school, do I have to attend the parent-teacher conferences?

Answer: You definitely will want to attend the fall conference. This meeting establishes and/or strengthens your relationship with your child’s teacher. You may be asked to attend the second conference in the winter if there are areas of weakness your child’s teacher wishes to share through in-person conversation (academically and/or behaviorally).

Should my child join me at my parent-teacher conference?

Answer: No, unless the teacher asks that the child be present. If you’re not able to get child care and would otherwise miss the conference, please bring your child so you can still meet with the teacher.

What grade level teachers hold parent-teacher conferences?

Answer: All teachers in grades Kindergarten through 3rd grade host conferences, including teachers in our pre-Kindergarten programs (3-Year old Program and 4-Year old Program).

Do children attend school on parent-teacher conference days?

Answer: Students do not attend school on the fall conference day.  Other conferences may be held throughout the year as scheduled by the teacher, but children still attend school. Please check the district calendar, www.jecsd.org, or call us at (315) 689-8540 if you have specific questions relative to school days.

I missed my conference with the teacher or I never heard from the teacher about having a conference. What do I do?

Answer:  No worry. Please reach out to the teacher directly by email or phone (315) 689-8540. If you’re not able to make contact, please call the building Principal at the number above.
