A total of 60 students attend Women in Engineering Day at JE
A total of 60 students from five area schools including Jordan-Elbridge attended the sixth annual Women in Engineering Day on March 28 at Jordan-Elbridge High School. The event featured presentations by female engineering professionals from Welch Allyn, General Electric, the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry and C&S Companies. Students also participated in a 60-minute challenge in the library, where groups utilized the design process to solve a complex problem.
The focus of the event was to promote the importance of diversity in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields and to show students the benefits and opportunities that a STEM field offers.
“The students got a chance to network with real professionals in the field, and some will end up following up the event with a one-on-one job shadow,” said technology teacher Travis Bruneau.
“We are really proud of the opportunity to introduce students to professionals and potential mentors.”
