JEMS students celebrate Earth Day through poetry
Jordan-Elbridge Middle School students celebrate Earth Day through writing. The school held a poetry contest, where students were asked to write an original poem about a topic related to the environment. Students could choose from a range of ideas, such as why it’s important to care for the environment, what are its wonders and beauties, or what their own fears, hopes and dreams for the planet are.One student from each grade was recognized for their poem. In 6th grade, that student was Sarah Love; in 7th grade, Bridget Whiting; in 8th grade, Brook Chiaramonte. Each student was given a reward from their Language & Literature teacher, plus a gift card to Barnes & Noble.
April happens to also be National Poetry Month. You can find the students’ winning poems here.
