JECSD to offer summer health and fitness program

JECSD is offering a summer health and fitness program for any students who will be entering grades 7-9 in the 2021-22 school year. The goal is to teach students the importance of health and fitness through making healthy choices. The program will cover topics such as nutrition, body composition, and creating healthy habits.

“We just want to teach them to live a healthier, more active lifestyle,” said Lynette DelFavero, one of the staff members coordinating the program.

According to the state Health Department, more than 40% of students in the Jordan-Elbridge School District are considered overweight or obese. That's what sparked this idea, to start educating children about how to live a healthy lifestyle from a young age. It’s not only about the students; staff members hope to get families involved, too. Each week, students will be sent home with a healthy recipe to try making with their family.

“As much as we can educate the kids, they don’t pick what comes into their house, so this will be more likely to trickle through the whole family too,” said coordinator Rebecca DeMario.

The program is scheduled to run from July 19th through August 18th. It will be offered Monday-Thursday from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., and buses will be provided to get kids to and from the high school. Students will also be fed a nutritious lunch while on campus.

To sign up, please use Family ID.
