2021-22 school opening message from Superintendent Froio
To all Jordan-Elbridge families,Based upon the recommendations from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, both the Cayuga and Onondaga County Health Departments, Upstate Medical University, and, most recently, guidance issued by the State Education Department, Jordan-Elbridge schools will open this fall retaining all of our same safety protocols and procedures that successfully guided us through last school year.
This will include masking for all regardless of vaccination status and the continuation of morning temperature checks. Teachers will provide mask breaks as they did last school year. Different from last year, students will be spaced 3-feet apart in classrooms instead of 6. However, the lunch rooms will continue its 6-feet distancing. Also, students and staff will not have to wear masks outside.
Also different from last year, the State Education Department issued a statement saying that so long as allowed by public health officials, schools should be open for in-person teaching and learning, and students should be in school. Therefore, we will not be offering remote instruction as we did last school year. If you have an extra-ordinary situation that you feel requires remote instruction, please call the COVID Hotline, leave a message, and I will get back to you.
By clicking this link, you will find the State Education Department Guidance. You can also find health and safety recommendations from the Cayuga County Health Department here, and Upstate Medical University guidance here. As the school year draws closer, we will hold an informational meeting, via zoom, to detail all of our safety protocols and procedures for the new school year. Once the date has been set I will notify all of you.
I know we were all hoping for a more normal school opening. I was as well. However, this isn’t anything we haven’t done before folks and done well. Once again, we will need to pull together to keep our children safe and to keep them learning.
Take care everyone.
Sincerely,
Superintendent James Froio
