JEHS sophomores praised for quick action at weekend job
Two Jordan-Elbridge sophomores showed leadership at their part-time jobs, stepping up during a tense situation at Beak and Skiff. Erin Gannon and Heather Sorts work at the Lafayette apple orchard on the weekends. When they found out they’d be working in the Kids’ Area of the orchard, the girls took it upon themselves to become First Aid and CPR certified.“It’s good to have the knowledge for that, especially since we’re working with kids,” explained Gannon.
It was only their second day on the job when the two had to put those skills to use. A child hurt herself while playing, and Gannon and Sorts knew just what to do.
“We ran down to get help, we got the little girl ice for her head, and made sure she was okay,” said Sorts.
Both students said the key was to keep calm. Beak and Skiff told the district they are very proud of the quick-thinking and action in which the girls took.
