Teacher shares accomplishments with students
Teacher Beth Brunelle has a lot to celebrate from the past year. She participated in 11 races throughout 2021, running a total of 35.9 miles! Now, she’s sharing the trophies she collected along the way with students in Mary Maestri’s class. See which award was given to each student below.
- Brunelle gave student Johanna Hevner her medal from the Autism Awareness run, which was 3.1 miles.

- Student Eli May was awarded the One Warm Coat medal. The course was 4 miles, and the organization provides free coats to those in need.
- Daniel Neuman II was given the Give Kids the World medal. The 3.1-mile race aims to help fulfill the wishes of all children with life threatening illnesses and their families have a memorable experience.
- Karissa Wilson was given a trophy from a 3.1-mile Pediatric Cancer race.
- Brunelle gave Giahnna Carbona the Southwest Cancer Foundation medal. The foundation helps preserve and advance Arizona Camp Sunrise and sidekick programs for pediatric cancer patients. The race was 4 miles.
- Michael Chuff received the Stomp Out Bullying award for a 3.1-mile race.
- Izzy Cowan was given the Hallie Strong Foundation race medal. The foundation helps outfit the feet of every cancer patient with fun socks while they receive treatment.
- The Advancement for Science in Space medal was given to Blake Wolfanger.
- Daniel Porter got the Americares medal. The organization helps people impacted by poverty or disaster build better lives through better health.
- Tristyn St. Andrews was given the About Fresh trophy. About Fresh helps strengthen communities by getting fresh food to households that need it the most.
- Westley Porterfield was given the Make a Wish Foundation medal.
