ELL students celebrate different cultures through food

It started as a discussion about how dough was made, and for what purpose, in different countries. That's when an English Language Learner student suggested the class participate in an international food fest. The group of high schoolers planned to bring their favorite foods, and prepared presentations about the ingredients and process of making it.

"We've been dreaming about this for years, to do something that isn't just about the holiday, but makes us feel at home and that we belong and that we are closer," explained teacher Danuta Goldmann.

Representing dishes from Guatemala, there were tacos, homemade tortillas, and tamales. Representing dishes from Poland, there were pierogi, golabki, and kapusta to share. You can find some pictures from the class below.
