ELL students celebrate their love of reading through a play

JEDIS students spent their Valentine’s Day ELL class celebrating their love for reading through a play they wrote themselves.

“We think acting out helps with memorizing, vocabulary words, and it builds a curiosity for reading,” explained teacher Danuta Goldmann.

Students across multiple classes have worked on this play over the years. They collaborate on the story and write their own parts. The play is titled “The Invasion from the Planet Venus: The Planet of Love for Reading.”

“The idea is to inspire them to keep on reading during vacation,” added Goldmann, as the mid-winter recess is just around the corner.

Below, you’ll see a picture of the JEDIS students when they first started working on the play, compared with a photo from this year’s class performance.
