JEDIS launches book vending machine on Read Across America Day

The Jordan-Elbridge Dynamic Intermediate School has unveiled a new book vending machine to help promote reading in school. The opening comes just in time for Read Across America Day, which fell on March 2, 2022, this year.

“I’m so excited to see all students here throughout the rest of the week getting books, and to have students show off what they’re reading,” said JEDIS Principal Nina Baker.

It takes one token to purchase a book inside the machine. Students are awarded tokens based on good behavior in the lunchroom, hallways, or inside their classrooms. To celebrate Read Across America Day, each JEDIS student was awarded one token to try out the vending machine. Eventually, the room it’s in will be transformed into the ‘Eagle’s Nest Reading Room.’

“You’ll be able to spend time with your class just hanging out and reading a good book,” added Baker. “We haven’t had a space like that in JEDIS ever.”

The vending machine will be refilled regularly with new book options, and the room it’s in will slowly be renovated. New furniture is on the way to create a comfortable place for students to kick back and crack open their latest vending machine find. Check out the video below to see how the machine works.
