JEMS continues to collect medical supplies to help Ukraine

Jordan-Elbridge students are showing their support for Ukraine through a medical supply drive at the middle school. Students say when they first found out Russia invaded the country, they felt helpless. Intercultural understanding and respect are pillars of International Baccalaureate learning. With that in mind, it was an easy decision to begin collecting items to help.   JEMS students organize donated medical items that will be sent to Ukraine

"Doing this, I feel happy because I am helping other people, and hopefully it inspires other people in helping Ukraine too," said Zoe, one of several students helping to organize everything that was donated.

Within just four days, the Jordan-Elbridge community donated hundreds of supplies. From gloves, surgical masks and bandages to antibiotic ointment and feminine products, there were enough donated items to overflow the tables in the middle school library.

“I think a good reason we should all help is because they're all people too, and they deserve to have all this stuff," added student Nina Bartolotta.

Culture Club, National Junior Honor Society, and other student-volunteers helped box up all of the donated supplies Thursday. Friday, the Syracuse chapter of the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America picked up the donation to send directly to Kyiv, Ukraine.JEMS medical supply drive for Ukraine continues

If you’d still like to donate, the district will continue to collect items to send to Ukraine. To coordinate dropping off a donation, give the school a call at (315) 689-8500.

Local news stations highlighted our students' incredible work. Below, you'll see a Spectrum News reporter capturing the item organization process on camera. News Channel 9 also came by to talk with students and IB Coordinator Alexis Farsworth. To watch that story, click here. Students were also interviewed on the 95X Morning Mess radio show.
