JE Drama Club to present "Million Dollar Baby"

Looking for some fun weekend plans? Get ready to laugh your way through JE Drama Club's latest performance! Students will present the melodramatic comedy, MILLION DOLLAR BABY (Or A Hot Time in the Old Town Tonight) by Craig Sogan, on Friday, May 21 and Saturday, May 22 at 7:30 p.m. in the JE High School Auditorium.

This play is a comic melodrama set in two acts. The characters center around Nellie Cavandish, who is saintly; and her greedy brother, Creepstone, who is diabolical. Their daddy willed $1,000 to each with the stipulation that the one who increases the amount most within 30 days will inherit his entire fortune. The struggle between good and evil becomes a tug of war, with Nellie and her gentle friends, including the Chicago Fire Department, pulling honestly and earnestly, and Creepstone and his hoods, gamblers and show girls using every underhanded, dishonest ploy they can conjure up. With a beautiful, pure heroine, a brave, handsome hero and a vicious villain, the play has all the requisites of the old-fashioned thriller - but this one has more. "Million Dollar Baby" illustrates an authentic atmosphere as it includes the Chicago fire and a Clark Street mission for the homeless.

Tickets are $8.00 each, which includes refreshments at intermission, and can be purchased at the door on both nights of the performance. The play is directed by Denise Deapo, and Drew Deapo takes on the technical direction of the show.
