JE Musical Players to Present "Radium Girls" This Weekend
The Jordan-Elbridge Musical Players are set to perform Radium Girls, a compelling and historically significant play, on Friday, November 15, and Saturday, November 16, at 7 PM in the JE High School auditorium. This production, based on the true story of female factory workers in the 1920s who suffered radium poisoning from painting glow-in-the-dark watch dials, showcases the talent and dedication of JE’s student actors.
The cast is led by Bridget Whiting as Grace Fryer, the courageous factory worker who leads the charge for justice against the U.S. Radium Corporation. Owen Pardee portrays Arthur Roeder, the company’s conflicted executive, while Aviela Pollock plays Kathryn Schaub, a close friend and coworker of Fryer who also suffers the consequences of radium exposure. Jocelyn Sorber takes on the role of Mrs. Wiley, a social activist who supports the girls’ cause, adding depth to this true story of resilience and advocacy.
Other notable cast members include Logan Guerrette, who performs multiple roles as C.B. Lee, Dr. Drinker, Dr. Flinn, a shopper, a court member, and a "Lovesick Cowboy," showcasing his range in embodying various characters. Mathieu Piper brings to life several pivotal figures, including a reporter, Raymond Berry, and Dr. Kneff, while Kathleen Ferrare skillfully handles the dual roles of "Sob Sister" and Mrs. Fryer.
The ensemble is rounded out by a talented supporting cast, including Mason Meade as both Dr. Von Sochocky and Edward Markley, Lilith Maggi as Irene Roeder, and Lilly Blake as Harriet Roeder, among many others. These students have worked tirelessly to authentically portray the struggles and triumphs of the real-life figures who helped shape American labor rights.
Directed by Mr. Tallon Larham, Radium Girls is sure to provide an unforgettable experience for all in attendance, shedding light on the courageous individuals who fought for safety and justice in the workplace. Audiences can expect a historically accurate portrayal of this harrowing period, with careful attention paid to costumes, set design, and dramatic storytelling.
Tickets will be available at the door for $8, with proceeds supporting future JE theater productions and arts programs.
