JE Students Compete At First Lego League Qualifiers

Jordan-Elbridge students put their creativity, collaboration and problem-solving skills on display over the weekend as they competed in the First LEGO League Qualifiers held at Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES.

JE was represented by four teams—Searching Eagles, Digging Dominators, The Rockers and Artifact Avengers—each taking on this year’s archaeological-themed challenge, Unearthed. The season challenged students to think like archaeologists, digging deeper than ever before to explore the past while developing innovative solutions to real-world problems in the field of archaeology.

In preparation for the competition, teams spent weeks researching, planning and refining their ideas. Students then designed, built and programmed LEGO robots to complete a series of missions aligned with their chosen strategies during the live competition.

One JE team, the Searching Eagles, was recognized with the Motivate Award, which celebrates a team that truly embraces the culture of First LEGO League through teamwork, spirit and enthusiasm. Judges praised the group’s positive energy and perseverance, noting, “The Motivate Award goes to a team that included choreographed hand gestures and lots of smiles. They overcame multiple challenges to their robot build and code with grace and positivity. There was a clear enthusiasm and eagerness to share from all teammates.”

Team coach Bev Karsteter praised the students’ dedication and teamwork throughout the season. “The students worked hard, learned to adapt and supported one another every step of the way,” Karsteter said. “That spirit is what First LEGO League is all about.”

The Jordan-Elbridge Central School District congratulates all four teams on a successful competition and thanks the students, coaches and families for their hard work and support throughout the First LEGO League season.
