JEMS VEX Robotics Club Heads to Competition at Morgan Road Middle School
The Jordan-Elbridge Middle School (JEMS) VEX Robotics Club is gearing up for an exciting day of competition this Saturday, February 14, as students travel to Morgan Road Middle School in Liverpool to compete in the VEX IQ Mix and Match Competition.
The VEX Robotics Club provides students in grades 6–8 with hands-on exposure to robotics, cutting-edge technology, and real-world problem solving. Through project-based learning, teamwork, and competitive experiences, students design, build, and refine robots using VEX IQ competition kits. Each robot is engineered to complete specific challenges on a 6-by-8-foot gameboard featuring interactive elements unique to this year’s competition.
At the Mix and Match event, teams will put their skills to the test during both driver-controlled and autonomous matches. The Skills Fields will feature two separate match fields, ensuring the event runs smoothly and efficiently. This setup allows each team ample opportunity to complete their three driver skills runs and three autonomous skills attempts, showcasing both strategic programming and precise driving.
JEMS teacher and VEX Robotics Club advisor Todd Canino emphasized the value of the experience for students beyond the competition floor.
“VEX Robotics gives our students the chance to apply critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity in a hands-on environment,” said Canino. “The competition aspect builds confidence and perseverance, while also allowing students to see how their hard work and teamwork translate into real results.”
As the JEMS VEX Robotics Club heads into Saturday’s competition, students are excited to demonstrate their engineering skills, problem-solving abilities, and teamwork while representing Jordan-Elbridge on a competitive stage.
Best of luck to our JEMS roboticists as they mix, match, and compete this weekend!
