The Jordan Elbridge Central School District as an employer is occasionally requested by current or former employees to offer a reference. In addition, other employers occasionally ask the District to offer a reference with regard to our current employees, former employees and job applicants. Such job inquiries and references may take the form of answering questions that the District hired or did not hire the applicant for a position with the District.
Because some the responses to such inquires may be unlawful or inappropriate, and because the District might be vulnerable to legal complications, with regard to providing such job references, the District authorized and directs the Superintendent to:
a) Develop and implement a system of procedures whereby all job references an inquires are to be handled centrally by a single office
b) Insure that supervisor and mangers are well informed that they are not to offer a job reference or an answer to a question with regard to any current employee, former employee or job applicant of any kind, either in writing or rally, either informally or formally
c) Direct and instruct each such supervisor or manager to refer all such inquires to the school official so designated by the Superintendent.
