Senior Laura Alcock has set big goals for herself since middle school. That’s when she decided she wanted to take classes at Onondaga Community College, while simultaneously completing her normal high school courses.

Along with graduating in the top ten percent of her senior class, Laura is receiving a degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences from OCC. Laura is the second Jordan-Elbridge student to ever reach this accomplishment.
She’s been doubling up, taking both high school and OCC classes since her sophomore year. She’s even had to take classes over the summer to make sure she finished her degree on time.

"Senior Love" campaign a success:
JEHS seniors were celebrated over the weekend, in a special parade as we near the end of the school year. Each senior was visited by staff members, who delivered "senior 2021" signs to place in the students' front yards. There were four different routes, led by three local fire departments, making sure all seniors were visited.
There's no doubt that all students have endured a lot of changes over the past two years. For JEHS seniors, that has included the loss of a classmate, the cancellation of their junior prom, sports cancellations and a complete shut-down during the final three months of their junior year. Seniors are now working through a modified version of senior year. This celebration was meant to show support for seniors as they near graduation.

As more teachers, staff and students within the Jordan-Elbridge Central School District receive their COVID-19 vaccinations, protocols within the schools are remaining the same to stop the spread of the disease.
Each Monday, 200 students at JEHS are tested. That’s everyone who participates in extra-curricular activities. For the last two Mondays in a row, all 200 students tested negative. Along with this weekly testing, cleaning protocols haven’t eased up. At each school, rooms are cleaned between classes, and masks and social distancing remain requirements.
Vaccinations also remain a top priority in the fight against COVID-19. Next week, 28 high schoolers will receive the second dose of their Pfizer vaccines. It’s thanks to a clinic hosted by Onondaga County at ...

Thinking globally to embody the spirit of I.B.:
Jordan-Elbridge Middle School students are learning about global needs, thanks to an alternative International Baccalaureate project. Students in Gayle McCabe’s class are participating in a project called “Kids Power Up” through UNICEF.
Here’s how it works: each time a student sees a Social-Emotional Learning video or participates in an exercise video for a Physical Education class, they earn coins. Coins can then be exchanged for various global needs.
“I’m really proud of them participating in such a great, global project, as it truly embodies the spirit of I.B.,” said McCabe.
So far, the class has provided 22 meals to impoverished families and planted two trees through a worldwide conservation program.

Saying goodbye to a friendly face:
If you’ve ever driven past Elbridge Elementary around 9:30 a.m. on a weekday, you’ve probably flashed a smile and a wave to Jeanine Nolte. She’s been directing traffic in front of the school for the last 14 years, but after this week is through, she’s hanging up her vest.
“I bring smiles,” said Jeanine. “They say I put smiles on a face, if they’re having a bad day, they say I make them happy and make them smile.”
Her dance moves are usually the reason for those smiles. You’ll often catch Jeanine grooving her way through the job. Keeping the community safe, while helping commuters crack a smile as they start their day. Jeanine says that’s her favorite part about being a crossing guard – noticing when she makes ...

Frankie and Emily have been friends since pre-school. When they were younger, the two would sit on the sidelines as their brothers participated in Eagle Scouts. One day, they were asked if they wanted to join.
“The troop was always trying to get us involved and try new things,” said Frankie.
Frankie was soon put on a fast-track to become an Eagle Scout. That means she had to complete all her badges in ...
