Coaching Requirements




Thank you for your interest in the Jordan-Elbridge athletic program. In order to provide quality coaches for secondary school athletes, New York State has established standards required of all coaches, volunteer and paid. All costs associated with obtaining coaching certifications are the responsibility of the coach.

Non-certified teacher, must complete the following to coach in New York State:
  • Fingerprinting - processed through MorphTrust with clearance through NYS Education Department. Fingerprinting is now done through MorphoTrust, a statewide vendor managed system. Fingerprinting is no longer offered through BOCES or school districts. To find locations and schedule an appointment, go to: www.identogo.com and click on New York State on the map, or call (877)472-6915. The MorphoTrust system will ask for an ORI Number. The NYSED code is: 14ZGQT 
  • Current first aid certification (valid for 2 or 3 years) 
  • Current CPR/AED (valid for 1 or 2 years) 
  • Child Abuse Course (CAR) and Violence Prevention and Intervention (SAVE) Workshop: Bundled online here: NYS Mandated Courses   
  • Dignity for All Students Certification (DASA) (dates on section3.org for free)
  • Completed Temporary Coaches license. Done through NYS TEACH. Renewed annually.
  • Heads Up Concussion Certification (every 2 years): CDC Heads Up Course
  • Completion of:  (within 3 years of initial appointment)
    o Theory and Techniques of Coaching
    o Health Sciences Applied to Coaching
    o Principles, Philosphy, and Organization of Athletics
    o Courses can be taken online at: NYS Coaching Courses
 
Teacher Coaches (excluding Physical Education) must complete the following to coach in New York State:
  • Current first aid certification (valid for 2 or 3 years) See link below under download section.
  • Current CPR/AED (valid for 1 or 2 years) See link below under download section.
  • Heads Up Concussion Certification (every 2 years): CDC Heads Up Course
  • Completion of:  (within 3 years of initial appointment)
    o Theory and Techniques of Coaching
    o Health Sciences Applied to Coaching
    o Principles, Philosphy, and Organization of Athletics
    o Courses can be taken online at: NYS Coaching Courses
