Jordan-Elbridge Middle School eighth graders had a powerful and moving learning experience this week as they welcomed guest speaker Leah Goldberg from 3GNY (Third Generation New York), an educational non-profit organization founded by grandchildren of Holocaust survivors.

Leah shared the courageous story of her Nagymama (grandmother), Susy Raful, a Jewish woman born in Budapest, Hungary, who endured the unimaginable during the Holocaust. In 1944, Susy was arrested by the Nazis and deported to Ravensbrück and several other concentration camps. Near the end of the war, she and her twin sister Mary survived a death march and were eventually rescued and taken to a hospital in a small ...

Jordan-Elbridge High School junior Evan Moore recently had the opportunity to gather with other Hispanic and Latin youth from across New York in Albany to hone his leadership skills and engage in the art of democracy through The Angelo Del Toro Puerto Rican/Hispanic Youth Leadership Institute (PR/HYLI). Evan, who just moved to the district from Puerto Rico, is experiencing his first year at Jordan-Elbridge. Despite the transition, he has found a welcoming community both at school and within PR/HYLI. "This is my first year here, and everyone has been so welcoming despite me just moving here. Applications must state the name, address, telephone number, date of birth and grade of student for whom the request is being submitted, as well as the name, address and telephone number of the private or parochial school to which transportation is requested. JE Science Olympiad Team Competes at Regional Tournament JE Science Olympiad Team Competes at Regional Tournament: The Jordan-Elbridge Science Olympiad team recently showcased their STEM skills at the regional Science Olympiad tournament, held this past Saturday at Le Moyne College. Competing against 35 schools from Onondaga County, JE students demonstrated their knowledge and problem-solving abilities in a variety of events. Mick Chmielewski and John Peters earned an impressive 7th place finish in Air Trajectory , while Lauren Richardson and Gabrielle Rodriguez placed 10th in Write It Do It . The FIRST LEGO League Challenge (FLL) is an international competition that encourages students to explore science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) through hands-on learning. Teams are tasked with designing, building, and programming an autonomous LEGO® robot to complete specific missions. Yesterday, students savored the flavors of Belgium, indulging in a variety of snacks, treats, and sweets unique to the country. This hands-on cultural experience allows students to broaden their horizons while enjoying a fun, interactive activity. The club meets once a month after school and uses Universal Yums snack boxes to explore different countries. Partnering with Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP), a national non-profit organization, the Student Council collected and donated essential bedding items to help ensure that children in the greater Syracuse and Oswego City area can sleep comfortably. SHP's NY-Syracuse chapter, a growing group of dedicated volunteers, has been making a profound impact by building, assembling, and delivering beds to children aged 3 to 17 who lack a proper place to sleep.
