Junior class fundraiser underway Junior class fundraiser underway: You’re invited to participate in a Pampered Chef fundraiser to support the JE Class of 2024! Throughout the month of September, you can purchase some fun items to spruce up your kitchen, and proceeds will benefit the junior class. The junior class asks that you invite a friend or two to participate by sharing this link . The class of 2024 is looking forward to having a strong start to their 2022-23 fundraising year. Varsity boys and girls soccer teams complete summer leagues, prepare for fall season Varsity boys and girls soccer teams complete summer leagues, prepare for fall season: Both the boys and girls varsity soccer teams are wrapping up summer league play and preparing for the fall season ahead. The boys team hosted six high school teams, one each Sunday for six weeks of play.  In the final week of play, the boys lost 2-3 vs. Bishop Luddon in a hard working battle. The team's summer MVP is Ayden Campion, who attend all off-season trainings and according to coaches, represented the school with class!  The girls played all summer at Nottingham High school fields in Syracuse. Summer Health & Fitness Program wraps up second year Summer Health & Fitness Program wraps up second year: Jordan-Elbridge’s Summer Health and Fitness Program is leaving a lasting impact on students who have signed up. This is the program’s second year, and 25 students signed up to participate. To be eligible, they had to be entering 7 th -9 th grade. “It’s fun, I would recommend it because you get to hang out with your friends but you also get to lift weights and it helps get you ready for your sports,” said Wes, a soon-to-be 8 th grader who also participated in the program last summer. Four days a week, students head to the high school, where they use the weight room and learn about proper fitness techniques from Athletic Trainer Rebecca DeMario, and School Resource Officer Lynette DelFavero. Congratulations to the Class of 2022 Congratulations to the Class of 2022: A total of 92 students from the Jordan-Elbridge class of 2022 were recognized during a commencement ceremony at John Howes Stadium on Friday, June 24 th . Superintendent James Froio kicked off the 58 th ceremony, where students and their loved ones heard from keynote speaker and Board of Education vice president William Yard, valedictorian Bayleigh Clark, salutatorian Elora Kunz, and senior class co-president Valerie Reith. William Yard kicked off the speeches, telling the story of a young man named Austin who tragically lost his family across two separate plane crashes. The first crash happened when he was a young child, and killed his mother, brother, and sister. He and his dad vowed to live life to the fullest in their honor. JEHS virtual art show now available to view JEHS virtual art show now available to view: This year, JEHS students were able to show off their art in two separate art shows, one in-person, and one virtual. Thanks to the in-person show, friends and family got the chance to see loved ones' artwork up close for the first time in years. “They deserve it, they work hard for four years, and it’s nice for the community to be able to come in and see all of the hard work they’ve done,” said art teacher Katie DeLorenzo when talking about senior excitement surrounding the in-person show. The in-person art show was displayed on Tuesday, June 7 th during the Festival of the Arts, which also featured the Collage Concert. The award ceremony took place at The Lodge in Skaneateles. All seniors were recognized, and some special awards were given out. Elbridge Elementary Virtual Art Show launches Elbridge Elementary Virtual Art Show launches: Loved ones of Elbridge Elementary students now have the chance to check out student artwork online, as this year's Art Show launches! EE art teacher Erin Sadowski has been taking photos of every piece of art students have created throughout the year, and organizing those photos by grade level. JE to once again offer Summer Health and Fitness Program JE to once again offer Summer Health and Fitness Program: The Jordan-Elbridge School District will once again offer a Summer Health and Fitness Program this summer. The program is available to students entering grades 7-9 for the 2022-23 academic year. This program was a huge success last summer, and the district is excited to bring it back again. There will be an emphasis on the importance of health an fitness, through making healthy choices daily. This 5-week program will run from July 5 th , 2022 to August 11 th , 2022. Students will meet 4 days-per-week, Monday-Thursday from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the high school. They will utilize the weight room, John Howes Stadium, and the gymnasium. Congratulations to May's Future World Changers Congratulations to May's Future World Changers: Two Jordan-Elbridge Middle School students are being recognized as ‘Future World Changers’! Each month, teachers nominate students for reasons such as excelling in class or making significant progress and growth. The students nominated exhibit qualities of a lifelong learner, such as having determination, being compassionate, and demonstrating curiosity. This group of 'Future World Changers' are: Daniel Conrad, and Nina Bartolotta. Students receive a t-shirt and a certificate for their hard work. Two staff members receive COSBA Awards Two staff members receive COSBA Awards: Two Jordan-Elbridge staff members are being honored at this year’s COSBA (Cayuga-Onondaga School Board Association) Award Ceremony. Food Service Supervisor William Vita is being recognized as ‘Supervisor of the Year,’ and Elbridge Elementary’s head custodian Alan Foster is being recognized as ‘Non-Instructional Support Staff of the Year.’ Bill Vita’s dedication goes above and beyond to address the needs of Jordan-Elbridge School District students. When we first entered the pandemic, Bill helped prepare and coordinate 89,085 breakfasts and 103,293 lunches from March 16, 2020, to August 31, 2021. Two JEHS spring athletes participate in 'Signing Day' event Two JEHS spring athletes participate in 'Signing Day' event: Two JEHS seniors have been recognized for their athletic accomplishments throughout high school. Anisa Adi and Colin Jewsbury will both be playing a sport at the collegiate level next year, a feat only 7% of high school athletes accomplish. Anisa, daughter of Jessica and Sean Bort, will be playing tennis at LeMoyne College. She plans to study psychology while in school. Anisa said she chose LeMoyne because of its location and academic excellence. Anisa was offered a $100,000 academic scholarship to attend, and is one of only nine players accepted onto the tennis team. Congratulations, Anisa! Voters approve 2022-23 school district budget Voters approve 2022-23 school district budget: On May 17 th , Jordan-Elbridge Central School District voters approved the district's $34,978,500 budget for 2022-23 with 270 yes votes to 107 no votes and elected three Board of Education members. The approved budget carries a 2.8 percent tax levy increase and increases spending by 3.45 percent, or $1,166,500. This budget includes increased mental health support for students and their families, in part due to the addition of a county social worker. JE Drama Club to present JE Drama Club to present "Million Dollar Baby": Looking for some fun weekend plans? Get ready to laugh your way through JE Drama Club's latest performance! Students will present the melodramatic comedy, MILLION DOLLAR BABY (Or A Hot Time in the Old Town Tonight) by Craig Sogan, on Friday, May 21 and Saturday, May 22 at 7:30 p.m. in the JE High School Auditorium. This play is a comic melodrama set in two acts. The characters center around Nellie Cavandish, who is saintly; and her greedy brother, Creepstone, who is diabolical. Sign up to participate in Donkey Basketball fundraiser Sign up to participate in Donkey Basketball fundraiser: The Jordan-Elbridge Band and Sports Boosters are planning a Donkey Basketball fundraiser, which will be held on Thursday, May 19 th . It will consist of 3-on-3 tournaments, where participants are riding donkeys while playing basketball. Students will play against their favorite teachers and staff. JE's Band and Sports Boosters are asking all students, teachers, administrators, coaches and staff to participate. You can be a donkey rider, volunteer at concessions, make up raffle baskets, or fill the stands to cheer everyone on! There will be four teams of 10 players, plus a coach. Each team must have a team name. All riders must be over 14 years-old, and will need to fill out a waiver form. Teams will create their own team shirts. It is $10.00 to participate. First graders celebrate the planet beyond Earth Day First graders celebrate the planet beyond Earth Day: Elbridge Elementary ELL students are learning about the importance of keeping our Earth clean. Teacher Danuta Goldmann said their enthusiasm for learning about the planet, recycling, and pollution sparked their latest project. “I wanted it to go beyond one day, beyond just Earth Day,” explained Goldmann. The first graders created a poster to share their findings. The first side shows facts they found interesting, such as it takes one-thousand years for a glass jar to break down. The second half of the poster shows animals they hope to help by making green choices. Goldmann also gave each student a Hyacinth to plant at home. Both first graders said they planted the flowers in front of their house with their families.
