Helping those in need ahead of Thanksgiving Helping those in need ahead of Thanksgiving: The season of giving has officially arrived and JE is supporting two drives ahead of Thanksgiving. Jordan-Elbridge Middle School is hosting a Personal Care Drive to support local refugee families, and the entire district will be sponsoring a Thanksgiving food drive to support the JE Food Pantry.  Students are being asked to bring donations to school for the Thanksgiving Food Drive, but donations may also be dropped off at St. Patrick’s Parish Center lobby (behind the church) at 28 N. Main St. Jordan, NY 13080. Both Middle School Honor Society & Elbridge Elementary Eagle Council students will be helping unload JECSD items collected on Friday, Nov. 19. Celebrating senior Anisa Bort's tennis career Celebrating senior Anisa Bort's tennis career: Anisa Bort has been dreaming of playing tennis in college since she was a child. Now, as a senior at JEHS, she’s made those dreams come true. “Something my family and myself has pushed for is the ability to get a tennis scholarship and to help lessen my student debt while allowing me to do something I loved,” explained Anisa. Anisa started playing tennis when she was 6 years old and joined the JE team once she started high school. For the past two years, Anisa has advanced to state qualifiers. To get there, she had to make it to the semi-final round of sectionals, and to get to sectionals she had to win at least half of the matches she played throughout the season. “Getting to state qualifiers for a second time for me was a great opportunity to play ...
Celebrating the return of special-area classes at EE Celebrating the return of special-area classes at EE: Students at Elbridge Elementary are settling into routines that once again include special-area classes, such as art. For some kindergarten and first grade students, this is the first time they’ve had a structured art class while in school. Last year, art classes weren’t available due to the pandemic. “If I’m walking in the hallways, they see me and wave and get so excited, the little kids especially because it’s brand new, they’ve never come to anything like this,” explained art teacher Erin Sadowski. For students who are returning to art class after more than a year, there are some adjustments to get used to. Each student must use their own supply box, and the boxes are grade-level specific. Seniors personalize parking spaces at JEHS Seniors personalize parking spaces at JEHS: Some Jordan-Elbridge seniors now have their own personalized parking space for the year. Students had the option of designing and painting a parking spot as part of a fundraiser for their class. Both students and staff could pay to have their parking space painted. Jostens representative to visit JEHS to talk graduation, class jewelry Jostens representative to visit JEHS to talk graduation, class jewelry: It’s time for JEHS seniors to look ahead to graduation! A representative from Jostens will be at the district on Thursday, November 4 th to talk about graduation packages and class jewelry. Larry DeWitt will be at JEHS to take seniors' orders for caps and gowns, and both junior and senior students' orders for jewelry. Seniors, if you haven’t received your graduation packet with the catalog and order forms, check with your senior advisor or go to this website to see our full offering. Get your tickets for production of Get your tickets for production of "Broadway JEMS": Get ready to hear your favorite showtunes, because JEMS Musical Theatre will soon be presenting Broadway JEMS! It is a review show featuring a variety of songs from hit shows such as Kiss Me Kate, Fiddler on the Roof, Annie, Wicked, Beauty and the Beast and The Sound of Music, to name a few. "Broadway JEMS came about as the ideal way to bring theater back to the middle school," explaind director Ryan Sparkes. "The kids hadn’t performed for over a year, I hadn’t taught middle schoolers for over a year, so it left us at a loss for what show to perform. JEHS partners with SECNY FCU to open JEHS partners with SECNY FCU to open "Eagle Branch": Jordan-Elbridge High School has partnered with SECNY Federal Credit Union to open a student branch program called “Eagle Branch” in the school’s cafeteria. The financial literacy program aims to provide students real-life, project-based educational opportunities. “Students start by interviewing for their position, then they must receive training from our professional staff, and then they will be ready to begin work and develop key skills for success in the workplace,” explained SECNY Director of Education Marketing Aerik Radley. Each month, students will learn about a new financial tool, with topics ranging from the difference between a savings and checking account, to debit and credit cards. Future World Changers announced for month of September Future World Changers announced for month of September: Three Jordan-Elbridge Middle School students are being recognized as ‘Future World Changers.’ Each month, teachers nominate students for reasons such as excelling in class or making significant progress and growth. September's 'Future World Changers' are Jylez Baker-Flagg, Keira Bennett and Ivan Gourley. Students receive a t-shirt and a certificate for their hard work. JE offers new mental health resources for students JE offers new mental health resources for students: For many students, learning how to navigate their education while living through a pandemic has brought uncertainty, added pressure, and anxiety. This year, the Jordan-Elbridge School District is offering some new mental health resources to make sure students have someone to talk to when they are feeling overwhelmed. There are two different levels of support available for students. Nicole Corrente is joining JE as a Student Engagement Specialist from Promise Zone, a school-based mental health program through Onondaga County. Corrente is here to serve everyone in the building, and her services are what could be called preventative. “Wherever there is conflict that is preventing people from succeeding in the classroom, that’s where I can step in,” explained Corrente. ...
Meet JE's new School Resource Officer Meet JE's new School Resource Officer: The Jordan-Elbridge Central School District is welcoming a new School Resource Officer to the team! Brian Kelly is joining JE following his retirement from the Elbridge State Police Barracks. Kelly was with the State Police in Elbridge since 2006, first as a trooper, and then as an investigator. Before that, Kelly worked in Pulaski and further north in the Adirondacks. He decided to retire at the end of September. You may recognize Kelly as a familiar face. That’s because he used to play basketball with staff ahead of the school day, and he’s one of the founding members of the annual Troopers vs. Teachers game at JEHS. JE launches Creator's Workshop series for students JE launches Creator's Workshop series for students: JE students are asked to share their creativity with a new workshop series led by Language and Literature teacher Ms. Glantz. The Creator's Workshop is just for fun, with no grades or homework included. Students are encouraged to submit creative art or writing pieces, which will then be featured in JE's newly established digital and print publication, I.AM. Creative Works Magazine. Students in grades 7-12 can participate, and there will be 6th grade and faculty spotlights.  Each month will feature a new theme, but students don't need to stick to the theme or attend the monthly workshop to submit their work. JEHS sophomores praised for quick action at weekend job JEHS sophomores praised for quick action at weekend job: Two Jordan-Elbridge sophomores showed leadership at their part-time jobs, stepping up during a tense situation at Beak and Skiff. Erin Gannon and Heather Sorts work at the Lafayette apple orchard on the weekends. When they found out they’d be working in the Kids’ Area of the orchard, the girls took it upon themselves to become First Aid and CPR certified. “It’s good to have the knowledge for that, especially since we’re working with kids,” explained Gannon. It was only their second day on the job when the two had to put those skills to use. A child hurt herself while playing, and Gannon and Sorts knew just what to do. “We ran down to get help, we got the little girl ice for her head, and made sure she was okay,” said Sorts. ...
Homecoming weekend schedule Homecoming weekend schedule: This Friday, October 1st, marks the Jordan-Elbridge annual community pep rally at the JEHS Stadium. The events will get underway at 7 p.m. and will feature all fall sports teams, town recreation teams, and JE Youth Football and Cheerleading teams. Limited space available for new karate offering Limited space available for new karate offering: There is a new co-curricular option for students, and it's time to sign up if you're interested! Jordan-Elbridge will be offering karate, taught by 4th degree Black Belt Leo McCormick. The class will introduce students to the basics of karate and self-defense. Classes will be held on Mondays and Thursdays from 3-4:30 p.m. at the High School. Class will include calisthenics, stretching, martial arts techniques, self-defense and sparring. The program will begin on October 14th.  Limited space is available! Right now, the program is only open to 11th and 12th grade students. 2021-22 school opening message from Superintendent Froio 2021-22 school opening message from Superintendent Froio: To all Jordan-Elbridge families, Based upon the recommendations from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, both the Cayuga and Onondaga County Health Departments, Upstate Medical University, and, most recently, guidance issued by the State Education Department, Jordan-Elbridge schools will open this fall retaining all of our same safety protocols and procedures that successfully guided us through last school year. This will include masking for all regardless of vaccination status and the continuation of morning temperature checks. Teachers will provide mask breaks as they did last school year. Different from last year, students will be spaced 3-feet apart in classrooms instead of 6. However, the lunch rooms will continue its 6-feet distancing. Also, students and staff will ...
